Connect ChatMaxima MCP with Grok

Overview

This guide shows how to connect ChatMaxima MCP with Grok, xAI's assistant, so Grok can build and fix chatbots, write WhatsApp templates and Flows, and read your inbox. Grok supports custom MCP connectors, so you add the ChatMaxima server once, sign in, and Grok uses its tools whenever your question is about your ChatMaxima workspace.

There are two Grok products, and both can use ChatMaxima:

• Grok at grok.com, the chat assistant, which adds MCP servers as custom connectors.
• Grok Build, the terminal coding agent, which adds MCP servers from the command line or its config file.

Both use the same URL and the same OAuth 2.1 sign-in, so you never paste an API key.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

• A ChatMaxima account with a role that can use the builder, templates, Flows or the inbox.
• A Grok account that can add connectors. On Grok Business and Enterprise, a team admin has to provision the connector first (see below).
• The MCP URL: https://chatmaxima.com/mcp

Option A: Connect Grok at grok.com

Step 1: Add a custom connector

1. Go to grok.com/connectors.
2. Click New Connector, then select Custom.
3. Enter the MCP server URL:

https://chatmaxima.com/mcp

4. Continue. Grok opens the ChatMaxima sign-in page.

Step 2: Sign in and pick your workspace

1. Sign in to your ChatMaxima account.
2. If you belong to more than one team, choose the workspace Grok may access.
3. Review what the connection can do, then click Approve.

Grok discovers the tools the server exposes and lists the connector as connected. The ChatMaxima server is public, so no tunnelling is needed.

Step 3: Use ChatMaxima in a chat

There is nothing to switch on per chat. Once connected, Grok uses the ChatMaxima tools when your request relates to your workspace.

Grok Business and Enterprise

On Business and Enterprise plans, a team admin provisions the connector in the xAI cloud console before members can use it. Give the admin the URL https://chatmaxima.com/mcp. Each member then signs in to ChatMaxima with their own account, so their ChatMaxima role still applies.

Option B: Connect Grok Build

Grok Build adds remote MCP servers from the command line:

grok mcp add --transport http chatmaxima https://chatmaxima.com/mcp

Or declare it in ~/.grok/config.toml:

Sign in the first time the server is used: Grok Build opens the browser for the ChatMaxima OAuth flow. You can also start it yourself: in the Grok Build interface, run /mcps, select chatmaxima and press i to authenticate.

The ChatMaxima tools then sit beside Grok Build's own tools, named chatmaxima__<tool>, for example chatmaxima__create_bot.

Add the ChatMaxima skills

Grok Build reads Agent Skills from .grok/skills/ in a project and ~/.grok/skills/ for every project, so you can install ChatMaxima's workflows with the open-source skills CLI:

Manage or revoke access

• In Grok: open grok.com/connectors and remove the ChatMaxima connector. In Grok Build, run grok mcp remove chatmaxima.
• In ChatMaxima: open Settings, then Connected Apps, and revoke the connection. It stops working immediately.

Troubleshooting

Grok cannot reach the server

1. Check the URL is exactly https://chatmaxima.com/mcp, with no trailing slash.
2. Try again in a few minutes. Grok connects directly to ChatMaxima's public server, so no tunnel or firewall change is needed on your side.

Sign-in opens but the connector never shows as connected

Finish the whole flow: sign in, choose the workspace and click Approve. Closing the window early leaves the connector unauthenticated. Remove it and add it again if it is stuck.

Grok does not use ChatMaxima for a request

Mention ChatMaxima in the request, for example "In ChatMaxima, list my chatbots". Grok picks connectors by what the question is about.

A tool fails with a permission error

Your ChatMaxima role in the chosen workspace does not include that section. Ask a workspace admin for access, or reconnect and choose a different workspace.
