Connect ChatMaxima MCP with Claude Code

Add ChatMaxima to Claude Code with one command, sign in with OAuth and build chatbots, WhatsApp templates and Flows, or fix a bot, from your terminal.

Overview

This guide shows how to connect ChatMaxima MCP with Claude Code, Anthropic's command-line coding agent, so Claude can build and fix chatbots, write WhatsApp templates and Flows, and triage your inbox while you work in the terminal. You add the server with one command, sign in to ChatMaxima once in your browser, and the tools are available in every session.

Claude Code connects to remote MCP servers over HTTPS and handles the OAuth 2.1 sign-in itself, so you never paste an API key or password. If you also install the ChatMaxima skills, Claude follows ChatMaxima's own workflows instead of working them out from tool names.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • A ChatMaxima account with a role that can use the builder, templates, Flows or the inbox.
  • Claude Code installed and signed in.
  • The MCP URL: https://chatmaxima.com/mcp

Step 1: Add the server

Run this in your terminal. The --scope user flag makes ChatMaxima available in every project; leave it out to add it to the current project only.

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user chatmaxima https://chatmaxima.com/mcp

Claude Code stores the entry in its own configuration. Nothing is written to your project unless you choose --scope project, which creates a shared .mcp.json file in the project root.

Step 2: Sign in

  1. Start Claude Code and type /mcp.
  2. Select chatmaxima. It shows as needing authentication the first time.
  3. Choose Authenticate. Your browser opens the ChatMaxima sign-in page.
  4. Sign in, choose the workspace Claude may access if you belong to more than one, review what the connection can do and click Approve.
  5. Back in the terminal, /mcp now shows chatmaxima as connected, with its tool count.

Tokens are stored by Claude Code and refreshed on their own. If the browser does not open, copy the URL printed in the terminal and open it yourself.

Step 3: Use ChatMaxima in a session

Ask for the outcome you want. Claude picks the ChatMaxima tools it needs and asks before anything that changes your workspace.

List my chatbots and tell me which ones had errors this week.
Build a lead capture bot for a real estate agency: ask for the area, budget and
phone number, save the lead to contacts, then hand off to an agent. Test it.
Compose a UTILITY WhatsApp template that confirms an appointment, with a
Reschedule quick reply, and show it to me before submitting.

Claude Code names each tool mcp__chatmaxima__<tool>, for example mcp__chatmaxima__create_bot. Use that form if you add permission rules for ChatMaxima tools in your settings.

Add the ChatMaxima skills

The MCP connection gives Claude the tools. The skills tell it the right order, the checks to make and when to stop and ask you. Install the ChatMaxima plugin from the Claude directory, or run it from a local copy of the repository:

git clone https://github.com/chatmaxima-com/chatmaxima-skills.git
claude --plugin-dir ./chatmaxima-skills

The skills then appear as /chatmaxima:build-chatbot, /chatmaxima:fix-chatbot and so on. The plugin references the same server URL, so you see one set of ChatMaxima tools, not two.

Manage the connection

TaskCommand
See every configured server and its statusclaude mcp list
See the ChatMaxima entryclaude mcp get chatmaxima
Sign out of ChatMaximaclaude mcp logout chatmaxima
Remove the serverclaude mcp remove chatmaxima

Removing the server deletes the tokens Claude Code stored, but does not revoke them in ChatMaxima. Run claude mcp logout chatmaxima first, or revoke the connection in ChatMaxima under Settings then Connected Apps, where it stops working immediately.

Troubleshooting

/mcp shows ChatMaxima as failed to connect

  1. Check the URL is exactly https://chatmaxima.com/mcp, with no trailing slash.
  2. Run claude mcp get chatmaxima to confirm the transport is http.
  3. Remove and add the server again, then sign in with /mcp.

Sign-in opens but Claude Code never connects

  1. Finish the whole flow in the browser, including the workspace choice and Approve. The terminal waits for the redirect.
  2. If a company proxy blocks the local callback, sign in from a network without it, then return.

Tools fail with a permission error

Your ChatMaxima role in the chosen workspace does not include that section. Ask a workspace admin for access, or connect a different workspace: sign out with claude mcp logout chatmaxima and authenticate again.

Claude says it cannot save changes

Confirm the workspace plan is active. A Free or expired plan blocks saves.
